Relationship Between Sheath Thickness And Cable Quality

Sheathing is the skin of wires and cables that allows us to see what they look like. The surface is required to be smooth, free of impurities and bubbles, and uniform in color. The thickness of the sheath must also meet the requirements. Failure to meet the standards will have a certain impact on the quality of the cable.

1. The thickness of the cable sheath affects the service life of the cable product.
When the cable is laid and put into use, it will be continuously energized, and heat will continue to be generated during the energization process. If the thickness of the cable exceeds the standard, although the insulation looks better, the heat will be difficult to dissipate. As time accumulates, more and more heat will accumulate. , will affect the normal service life of the cable; if the sheath is too thin, the insulation level and mechanical level of the thinner point of the sheath will decrease when the cable is directly buried, immersed in water, operated in the open air or in a corrosive environment for a long time. . If a line ground fault occurs, the thinner point may be broken down, and the cable sheath will not be able to protect it.

2. The cable thickness is too large, which increases the difficulty of cable laying.
As the insulation thickness increases, the outer diameter of the cable becomes larger. Currently, cable laying is mainly based on bridges or pipes. Generally, high-voltage cable products are required to have a small outer diameter. During the laying process, gaps need to be considered to dissipate heat. Of course, the cable The sheath thickness is too large and the cable laying is very difficult. It can be seen that the cable sheath is too thick or too thin, which will affect the service life of the cable.
